NORTH POLE — The Frostbound Fellowship came within measurable distance of leaving the Frostbitten Turnip this week before the Tinsel Post staff halted play to establish whether the tavern door should be treated as a narrative opportunity, a security risk, or a metaphor.

The door remained closed.

Motion To Proceed Meets Editorial Review

Quillby Candlewick, serving as game master and increasingly as meeting chair, confirmed the party had completed “all reasonable pre-departure activities,” including checking inventory, questioning the innkeeper, re-questioning the innkeeper, debating whether the Cursed Map of Winterdeep was being sarcastic, and asking if anyone had remembered rope.

No one had remembered rope.

The evening’s main development came when Chestnut Snugglebuckle, playing ranger Pinewhistle Trailmark, announced that the road north was safe if taken before moonrise.

This information was entered into the record and then immediately ignored.

Jingle P. Peppermint, as wizard Mournwick Frostbeard, requested “one final arcane scan” of the door on the grounds that doors in campaigns are “rarely just carpentry.” Buttons McSprightly, as Sir Nicelyndor the Certain, objected to the phrase “just carpentry,” calling it dismissive of honest hinges.

Pip N. Twinkleberry asked whether the door had a smell.

Candlewick paused.

“It is a door,” he said.

The table accepted this description provisionally.

Map Issues Guidance, Staff Requests Tone Adjustment

The Cursed Map of Winterdeep then updated itself in blue-black ink, producing the message: “Beyond this door lies the road. This has been true for some time.”

Several players described the wording as “pointed.”

Glimmer Merrymint, playing glamour mage Velveta Starcloak, suggested the map’s communication strategy might benefit from “less accusation and more mystique.” Sprinkle Gingersnapp, as investigator Vesper Vanishcrumb, asked whether the map had legal standing to comment on pace.

The map declined to clarify.

According to officials familiar with the parchment, it then redrew the tavern door slightly larger.

Snack Break Creates Procedural Delay

A planned five-minute snack break entered its forty-second minute after Pip unveiled a tray of cinnamon-glazed crumbcakes “for morale and crumb architecture research.”

Snowflake Bellwhistle, playing artificer Boltina Gearglow, used the delay to sketch a hinge-reinforcement device that no one had requested and Candlewick did not approve.

“This is why we cannot have doors,” Candlewick said.

At press time, the device had three legs, no hinge, and a small bell labeled “just in case.”

Established During Session Three

  • The tavern door is unlocked.
  • The road is available.
  • The party knows this.
  • The map knows the party knows this.
  • The ranger has been right twice.
  • The wizard has asked whether the doorknob is haunted.
  • Rope remains absent.

Departure Remains Imminent

By session’s end, the Frostbound Fellowship had successfully approached the door, inspected the door, discussed the door, and agreed that next session would begin with a decisive action involving the door.

Candlewick called this “progress.”

The Cursed Map added one final note in the lower margin: “Still waiting.”

The party adjourned. The door did not.
